Clear Mountain Zendo, Montclair, NJThe Clear Mountain Zen community meets Sunday mornings from 9 am to 11 am for zazen (sitting meditation) at Clear Mountain Zendo, 22 Lackawanna Plaza in Montclair, NJ. The first Sunday of each month in Montclair we offer beginner instruction. Please email for more information. Please arrive before 9 am. We also offer zazen at the following times: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 5:30 am to 7 am. Our Sunday service includes three 25 minute periods of zazen followed by a chanting service and a talk by one of the facilitators or a discussion. We do five minutes of kinhin (walking meditation) between each sitting period. Our chanting service includes the Heart Sutra, and Enmei Jukko Kannon Gyo. In addition, the group sponsors an annual weekend sesshin (retreat) and several zazenkai (one-day sits) as well. Sangha (Community) Leadership The sangha is facilitated by two senior students of Roshi Kennedy. They are responsible for organization and for conducting the Sunday morning service. Carl Bachmann has been a student of Roshi Kennedy for many years and previously studied with Roshi Bernie Glassman. He has been a practitioner of Zen for over 20 years. Carl is a psychotherapist and is employed by the Passaic County Board of Social Services as well as in private practice. Carl is married and the father of a teenage son. Deb Baretz has been a student of Roshi Kennedy and Zen practitioner for many years. She is employed by a pharmaceutical company as the head of Clinical Data Management in their US operations. Deb is married and the mother of an adult daughter and son. |
