The Empty Bowl Zen Community of Morristown, NJ

 

     The Empty Bowl Zen sangha (community) meets Tuesday evenings from 6:25 pm to 8:00 pm for zazen (sitting meditation) at the Church of the Redeemer, 36 South St., Morristown, NJ.  The service includes three 25 minute periods of zazen and a talk. There is a 5 minute period of kinhin (walking meditation) between each period of zazen. Chants include the Gatha of Repentance and the Four Great Vows.  

     On the first and third Tuesdays there are three periods of zazen with daisan (private interview on practice) offered with Ray Cicetti, Sensei. On the second Tuesday of the month, in addition to zazen, there is a talk followed by a practice circle. On the fourth Tuesday in addition to zazen and daisan, there is a talk. In addition, there is offered zazenkai (one-day zazen) during the year.
 

Sangha (Community) Leadership

  The sangha is led by Ray Cicetti, Sensei, dharma heir to Roshi Kennedy in the White Plum lineage and a Zen practitioner for many years. He is also a psychotherapist in private practice. Ray is married and the grandfather of two.
